Summer on Hvar begins with springtime, and Easter and its costumes now traditionally open the new season on the sunniest island. A tradition more than 400 years old – Procession called “Za križen” (eng. “Following The Cross”), included in the UNESCO-protected world intangible heritage, is the main motive of tourist arrivals from all over the world, another tasty UNESCO motive being the recently protected Mediterranean cuisine of the island of Hvar.

The most requested breakfast on the island is certainly the one at “Adriana”, and for Easter, along with 157 other dishes, there will be a handful of traditional Easter specialties: the Hvar sirnica (traditional Croatian Easter bread, pronounced seer-nit-za), ham baked in bread dough, painted eggs, povetica – traditional Istrian strudel made from walnuts and the season’s freshest apples, the first spring salads, green onions, radishes, young cheese, and scrambled eggs with Hvar asparagus and baby broad beans.
