Inhabited from the ancient times due to the source of potable water, Baška Voda lies in the foothills of the magnificent Biokovo Mountain. Once a village of farmers and fishermen, and now a modern tourist location, on several occasions it won the prestigious Blue Flower award, given to the most organized tourist resorts on the Croatian coast. If this is not enough recommendations, please read the following text and discover what this unique combination of sea and mountains, spiced with a grain of Dalmatian temperament and tons of cordial hospitality, has to offer.

Baška Voda is proud of 10 hotels that will meet the most refined requirements, high quality private accommodation facilities and camps. Refreshment in the crystal clear waters and relaxing colors of the Mediterranean flora are the strongest advantages of this area – we understand the old saying that even a dying man could come back to life here. To those interested in sightseeing there is a lot to recommend: rich museum collections, galleries with paintings on canvas and glass, Malacological Museum with its wondrous collection of shells from all over the world; picturesque churches– 18th century Late Baroque Church of St. Lawrence, Neo-Romanesque Church of St. Nicholas with its valuable works of art, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Roko in the nearbyvillage of Bast, and many monuments made of stone and brass (e.g. the statue of a local patron saint, St. Nicholas).

And when you get tired of sightseeing, go to one of the numerous restaurants and treat yourself with some of the local specialties – a grouper fish stew, boiled frogfish, the Biokovo baking lid or the Baška Voda ravioli. Your satisfaction will undoubtedly be complete!

City of Benkovac has emerged at the junction of the fertile fields of Ravni kotari and miser karst of Bukovica, surrounded by 5 national and 3 nature parks. The old traditions and lifestyles are here still alive, as well as old costumes, frequently worn by older residents.

Benkovac is a city rich in cultural and historical heritage, of an idyllic rural atmosphere and picturesque, varied landscape. Only 15 km away from the sea, Benkovac and its surroundings hide many pearls of natural beauty, cultural and historical monuments. The picturesque villages in the area will probably feel as if time has stood still – due to the preservation the authentic rural architecture. Long before the arrival of Croats the ancient people build here their settlements, and raised monuments. The best known such site is a priceless Asseria, where the remains of Liburnian settlement near Podgrađe have been found. The most striking cultural and historical monument in Benkovac is the 15th century Benković castle.

The fair of Benkovac, held every 10th of the month for over one hundred years, creates a special adventure. It will offer you genuine experience of the people and customs of this region, authentic products and foods that are still being created by hand and in a natural way.

While visiting Kistanje, Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sissy were thrilled with Manojlovac waterfalls and Krka River. Residents of Kistanje prepared a folk, but indeed a caesarean lunch. In doing so, they thought of the Empress as well. They knew that she takes care of her looks and is eating very little, but loves – ice cream. As a result, ten blocks of ice were brought from Velebit, and
from Benkovac, lemon ice cream, which was served at the end of lunch. At departure, women from Kistanje gave her 100 of the finest embroidered handkerchiefs.

Welcome to Bibinje, a place where life is flourishing…

In Bibinje there are the eyes of the sea. From the Talina promenade to the Sri sela square, the restaurants, taverns, and especially small cafes and bars, lined up on the edge of the waves, among the singing of crickets, putting all senses on trial. The entire Bibinje summer is mottled with events – enjoy the Raspivano Bibinje festival, folklore evenings, festivities, concerts…

Beaches

Facing Zadar islands, covered with smooth pebbles surrounded by the sea for centuries, the beaches of Bibinje bring a whiff of Dalmatia. While you’re lazily turning in the sun, the Punta Rožica beach, Škaljica, Lipauska, Šulterova vala, Punta will gently pull you in their heat, until you are joint with the sea. All family beaches are clean, neatly arranged, with running water and water slides for children.

Bibinje, where the life grows…

Throughout the entire Zadar region, the most children are born in Bibinje for years. Perhaps it is the “fault” of the sea, perhaps of the ground, a way of living… Perhaps you need Bibinje as a dry land needs a drop of rain, from which will emerge a long-forgotten life ..

Hvar: metropolis of the sea

A city that proudly carries the title of one of the earliest centers of organized tourism, together with Opatija and Kaštela, does not live on the old fame – it is moving on to new challenges – in October it hosted a meeting of old ships, and starts building a galley of Hvar.

Hvar Metropolis of the Sea Association and Hvar Town Sailing Club Zvir embarked together on a new project.

In addition to the 1st meeting of the traditional Dalmatian vessels – The feast of Forska Pulena held in October, they are at the beginning of realization of yet another great idea, all in order to promote tourism on Hvar.
Namely, they want to renew a legendary St. Jerome galleon, with world’s only preserved figurehead from this era (the bow ornament from the ship of a dragon name, Zvir).

For many years, the Lepant battle and its participants, including Hvar galleon, are the subject of the research of Ph. D. Tonči Tadić. According to his design, we collect documents to build a real galley, the 16th century wooden one. It’s a boat, very shallow, 42 meters long and 5 meters wide, with 26 seats where there were three rowers, which means that 138 rowers acted as a galley drive, with soldiers and cannon armament which was at the time necessary for the battle. Our idea, with the support of the town of Hvar and the Mayor Pjerino Bebić, is a galley for tourist purposes, but also a real attraction in our Adriatic sea – we find out the details of a dream from the Secretary of the Association Tonči Buzolić Lojko.
Because a city that is proud of the title of one of the earliest centers of organized tourism together with Opatija and Kaštela, does not live on the old fame – it is moving on to new challenges and one of them was certainly meeting of traditional boats.

Hvar’s locals took on crewmembers of those wooden beauties that each have at least fifty years in their life calendar, and thus Hvar’s dock made room for leuts, gajetas, trabakuls, batanas, pasaras, braceras…
By this return to the past, we preserve our rich maritime heritage, and next year we are expecting the arrival of the falkusa and all wooden sailing ships, for which applies only one rule – to be as faithful to the original, without many upgrades – Darko Šoša, the president of the Hvar Metropolis of the Sea Association.

Festival for a moment brought back to the past both Hvar’s residents and their guests, who love to dwell on the sunniest island in the Adriatic, but new programs, new challenges that can be offered to tourists, certainly did not amiss as the reaction to this event where everyone had nothing but praise was immediately seen.

Festival, in fact, delighted everyone – a real hit was the presentation of the wooden beauties, who, according to the years in the calendar are not exactly in the flower of youth, but their beauty woven into the hands of our diligent shipbuilders, sailors and fishermen, will never fade.
