Central Dalmatia abounds in gorgeous landscapes, endless beaches and numerous options for active holidays. A wide choice of intact sandy, pebbly and nudist beaches, as well as an array of adrenaline challenges for tourists, combined to create the main reason why old settlements, towns and islands in the Split-Dalmatia County have become the ultimate tourist destination for all age and interests groups.

While wandering along the beaches from the north to the south of the region, it is impossible to miss the largest sandy beach in the area between Split and Makarska. It is situated in Omiš and  locals love to call it Velika plaža (Grand Beach), although its true name is Punta (Peak). And, believe it or not, the beach is right in the center of the town!

The most attractive island beaches are located on Brač Island – the famous symbol of tourism in the town of Bol is called Zlatni Rat Beach (Golden Horn),  and on Hvar Island – beaches on Pakleni Islands, set in the aquatorium of Hvar town. Because of its beauty and uniqueness, Zlatni Rat often makes the covers of many world magazines and is among the most stunning beaches in the world. Thanks to the largest number of sunny hours on the Mediterranean, as well as their natural features and impressive crystalline sea, Pakleni Islands are among the most attractive islands in the world, winning many world prizes for best beach destinations.

The famous beaches of Makarska Riviera need no special headlining. The Riviera features a 60-kilometer-long zone of most diverse beaches, extending from Brela to Gradac and leading you through 18 towns and villages, while reserving something for everyone’s taste – from family beaches in Makarska, all the way to hidden gems in a remote fishermen’s village.

Apart from a pleasant vacation on the beach, adrenaline fans can also enjoy a varied offer for their active holidays – sailing, regattas, surfing and kiteboarding. There are diving schools available in Split, Makarska, Hvar and Vis, which offer visits to some of the most attractive diving spots on the Adriatic.

If you want a change of scenery, then you simply have to visit Omiš and Cetina River. Once there, take a ride on the absolutely awesome zip line above the river or go rafting on the river rapids that will lift your spirits and adrenaline to the skies. In case you prefer some slightly more peaceful activities, feel the heartbeat of the river through canoe-safari or river kayaking. And finally, we invite you to Split’s most famous beach – Bačvice, and the unavoidable local game of picigin. You will have endless fun while trying to keep the little ball in the air! Play this game with your local hosts, at the very location where it was invented – in the heart of Central Dalmatia, our fair Split, world-known for its beautiful Ancient Roman palace – the home of Emperor Diocletian.
